"I don’t want other people to decide who I am. I want to decide that for myself. I want to avoid becoming too styled and too done and too generic. You see people as they go through their career, and they just become more and more like everyone else.”

Dear Amanda, Neil, and Kyle,

Thank you, Neil, for talking me into buying this; I hesitated and hesitated, but when I read your blog about it (with the above picture of you and Amanda), I knew I had to have it. I was right.

And thank you, Kyle, who told me (in reply to my own excited tweet about buying it) that it would be “the most beautiful book [I] own[ed].” It’s actually one of the most beautiful (and most expensive, lol!) anything I’ve ever owned.

And, Amanda, I don’t have the words at this moment to express how happy and impressed I am with the pictures, the words, just everything—I just want you to know how glad I am that I got it, how much it means to me. After all those gorgeous pictures that came before (again, thank you, Kyle!), that picture of you and Neil at the end pretty much brought me to tears.

Love,

Neta

P.S. LOL, while I’m thanking everyone (like I won some kind of award or something :) thank you, Eric (@southships) for answering all my e-mails so quickly and so kindly; I think I would’ve gone a little crazy otherwise, especially earlier on when some of my other stuff didn’t show up. :)

These were given with the $1000 level and above rewards for Amanda’s 2012 Kickstarter. It took over two years for us to make them and get them out, and most of that delay was the time it took to find a printer who would agree to do something that beautiful to our specs and in the very low numbers we wanted — and who was unfazed by the nudity in the book. (All black and white art nudity. But nudity. Also essays and handwritten lyrics.)  It’s a coffee table book bigger than a coffee table, that comes in a beautiful handmade wooden box. The book can even be unscrewed, if you want to get any of the photographs framed.

Amanda had decided at the beginning of the Kickstarter that all postage would be free, and the cost of postage alone in sending these 20 lb books in boxes around the world was astronomical. And that doesn’t matter. I am just so glad that Kyle’s gorgeous photographs are properly reproduced, at the size they are at, in a book that is finally making people so completely happy.

Thank you to everyone who waited for being so patient.
